What is the conveyancing process when buying a house?

Conveyancing is the legal process of transferring property ownership – so buying or selling a house, flat, etc. It involves title investigation, conducting property searches, reviewing contracts, arranging a mortgage, exchanging contracts, and the transfer of funds on completion. The transfer of ownership is then registered with the Land Registry. The conveyancing process is there to ensure the buyer receives a valid legal title, the seller is paid, and that the legal obligations are met by both parties.
